A water molecule, represented by the chemical formula H₂O, consists of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. The oxygen atom has a slight negative charge, while the hydrogen atoms carry a slight positive charge, creating a polar molecule. This polarity is what gives water its unique properties, such as its ability to dissolve many substances, making it an excellent solvent. It also leads to water's high surface tension, which allows small insects to  walk  on water and is essential for processes like capillary action in plants.
